Weekend Report

Local:

- End of Summer Parking Lot Party at Parkland Mall. There will be a kids zone, music, evening cruise-in and drive-in movie. $2 per person or $10 for a car load with all gate proceeds are going to the Red Deer Food Bank. The event starts at &:00pm.

-Queens Diner in the Burnt Lake business park also has a drive in movie this evening. Food, music and the show as well. All funds raised will support programs of the Medicine River Wildlife Centre.

-Red Deer County Fire Department is selling their 2011 calendars at Canadian Tire South Saturday and Sunday from 9am – 6pm. Proceeds go to various charities in our community.

-The Western Canadian Reptile Expo runs Saturday and Sunday at Westerner Park. Tix are $5 or $15 for a family of four and that’s as close as I’m getting to anything reptilian.

- Against the Wall Theatre is having a fundraiser for their upcoming season tomorrow at the Scott Block downtown. Stand up, improv, live music and season tix. Doors at 6:30.


Sports:

-The Red Deer Riggers are at the 2010 National Senior Men’s Baseball Championships in Nova Scotia. The Riggers are representing Alberta so good luck to them.

-The Red Deer Titans Senior Ladies take on the Edmonton Rockers at the provincial championships in Calgary. If they win, they bring home the provincial banner.

-And the Red Deer Rebels begin their training camp Sunday with the Black and White game on Wednesday. All sessions at the Centrium are open to the public.


Film:

-Takers with Matt Damon and Paul Walker.

-The Last Exorcism which sounds like a Christian film but not.

Weekend Report

Local

-Fiestival is tomorrow and downtown will be buzzing with Latin flavour. Music, dancers, vendors and arts and crafts. It’s at Gaetz and Ross, same location as Centrefest, goes until 6pm tonight and is free for the whole family. Presented by BIG 105.

-BIG 105 presents the Open Minds Walk and Run Sunday at MacKenzie Trail. It’s a fundraising event in support of the Schizophrenia Society of Central Alberta. Come support the runners of this worthwhile event.


Sports

- Good luck to the Red Deer Midget AAA Carstar Braves as they take part in the 2010 Western Canada Baseball Championships in Saskatoon. The Braves are representing Alberta at the tournament. Bring it home, boys.

-Tom Skinner and Merv Doosick are at the Canadian Men’s Mid-Amateur Golf Championship in Quebec Friday. Both are from Red Deer so good luck to them.

- And the Red Deer Buccaneers are in Grande Prairie tomorrow as part of the Alberta Football League playoffs. If they lose, they’re out.


Film

-For the kids, Nanny McPhee Returns with Emma Thompson

-For the teens, Vampires Suck, a parody of the vampire phenomenon.

-For the adults, The Switch with Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman.

Weekend Report

Local:

-Shakespeare in the Park runs at 11am with matinee and evening shows tomorrow. It runs at Bower Ponds and tickets are $20 at the gate.

-The Bug Jamboree runs at the Ellis Bird Farm in Lacombe. Stop by starting at 9:00am and help your kids learn all about the creepy, crawly world of insects.

-The Market at Red Deer and the Rimbey Farmers Market also go tomorrow and the Wetaskiwin Air Show starts at 10:00am.


Sports:

-Parkland Baseball League Playoffs run all weekend at ball parks across Central Alberta. Lacombe, Innisfail, Rocky and Beiseker are already in the tournament while Red Deer, Carstairs, Eckville and Olds will play singe elimination games on Saturday.

-Good luck to the Red Deer Riggers and Stags taking part in the Senior Mens Triple A Baseball Provincials in St. Albert. The first game goes at noon against each other.


Film:

-Step Up 3D which is being called a hip hop High School Musical.

-The Other Guys with Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg.


Tonight’s Lotto Max jackpot is $50 Million with 32 MaxMillion prizes. Brad and Dawn Rowbotham won a MaxMillion right here in Red Deer. It could happen to us.
