Weekend Report

Local

-BIG 105 and Against the Wall Theatre presents Bull Skit Friday and Saturday at the Scott Block Theatre downtown. Live entertainment, sketch comedy and more. Tickets are $18 at the door.

-BIG 105 presents Gerry Dee at the Memorial Centre Saturday night. This comedy show is a fund raiser for the Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter. Tickets are limited and available at the Black Knight Ticket Centre.

-The annual Spruce View Skating Club Ladies Night Out Fundraiser is Saturday at the Spruce View Community Centre. This year’s theme is “Greek Goddess Toga Party”. Tickets are $40 and available by calling Joanne at 403-728-3085.

-The Alzheimer Society’s “Making Sweet Memories” Gala Dinner is Saturday at the Holiday Inn 67th Street. The evening will be emceed by Red Deer City Councillor Tara Veer. Tickets start at $99 and available by calling 403-346-4636.

-Shawn McCleary will be live on location at the Bell Store Parkland Mall Friday from 2-6pm.

-Jamie Worthington will be live on location at Computer Trends Saturday from 9am-1pm.

-Paul O’Neil will be live on location at Eyewear Liquidators Saturday from 1-5pm.

Sports

-Red Deer Rebels embark on the road to the Memorial Cup. Friday and Saturday the boys home to the Edmonton Oil Kings. Game time is 7:30 and BIG 105 will be on hand face painting in the lobby beforehand. If you can’t make it, the action will be broadcast on 106.7 The Drive.

-Red Deer’s Midget AAA Optimist Rebels hold a two games to one lead in their best of five against Leduc.

-Red Deer Midget AAA Girls are home Friday as the Sutter Fund Chiefs take on the Edmonton Thunder in game three of their series. Puck drop is 8pm at the Arena.

Film

-Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules based on the books by Jeff Kinney.

-Sucker Punch, an action thriller with Jon Hamm and Emily Browning.

Saturday is also Earth Hour as we encourage you to remove yourself from the power grid from 8:30-9:30pm. Last year, Red Deer citizens helped save enough energy to run The City’s entire traffic light system continuously for 10 days or power 30 houses for an entire month

Sunday is the 40th annual Juno Awards, hosted by Drake. Performers include recent Grammy-winning Montreal rockers Arcade Fire, Sarah McLachlan, Broken Social Scene, Chromeo, Johnny Reid and Hedley. Meanwhile, awards will be presented by Barenaked Ladies, Bryan Adams, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Daniel Lanois, Deadmau5, K'naan, Robbie Robertson, Rush and Shad.

Next week is Spring Break for most kids in Central Alberta. Canyon Ski Resort has their Spring Fever 2011 running all week with a different theme each day, capping off with their first ever Slush Cup next Sunday. BIG 105 will be on location with lots of prizes to give away.

Weekend Report

Local

-BIG 105 presents the Red Deer Speed and Custom Show and Collector Car Auction Friday through Sunday at Westerner Park. Check out the auctions and meet Batmobile creator George Barris. Daily passes are $10 and weekend passes $15.

- Christian Youth Theatre presents Snow White Friday through Sunday at First Church of the Nazarene on McVicar Street. Tickets are $12, $9 for seniors and children. A matinee show is available on Saturday.

-BIG 105 presents the Oldtimer’s Hockey Challenge Sunday at the Enmax Centrium. Legendary hockey players including Glenn Anderson, Theoren Fleury and Cliff Ronning. Tickets are $20 or a family four pack for $60. Tickets include admission to the pre-game skate at 2pm.

-Jody Evans will be live on location at Southside Dodge Chrysler Jeep Saturday from 11am-3pm.

-Jamie Worthington will be live on location at Computer Trends Saturday from 1-5pm.

Sports

-Red Deer Rebels have their two last regular season games. Friday the boys are in Edmonton and Saturday they are home to the Oil Kings. It’s also awards night so arrive early to check out who wins the hardware. If you can’t make it, the action will be broadcast on 106.7 The Drive.

-Red Deer Midget AAA Optimist Rebels open the AMHL Final against Leduc Friday at the Arena. The game starts at 8:15pm.

-Heritage Junior B action sees the Blackfalds Wranglers in Cochrane taking on the Generals. Blackfalds trails the series 2-1.

-Limitless, action thriller with Bradley Cooper & Robert De Niro

-The Lincoln Lawyer, drama with Matthew McConaughey & Marisa Tomei

Saturday Night Live features host and musical guest Elton John.

A bottle drive is happening this weekend to raise funds for the Japan earthquake and tsunami relief efforts. They will be focusing on the areas of Clearview, Johnstone Crossing and Lancaster.

Sunday is the first day of Spring. Or so they say.

Local:

-BIG 105 presents Derek Edwards at the Memorial Centre Friday at 8pm. Few tickets remain through the Black Knight Ticket Centre.

-CYT Central Alberta presents “Snow White” starting Friday and running through March 20th at the First Church of the Nazarene in Morrisroe. Tickets are $12, $9 for seniors and children.

-Let’s Talk Red Deer goes Saturday at the Bower Place Shopping Centre. Mayor Flewwelling, city councillors and staff from city departments will be on hand to answer questions. BIG105’s Lisa Weatherbee will broadcast live from 11am-3pm.

-The Irish Dance Association of Red Deer is hosting their annual pub night Saturday at Festival Hall starting at 7pm. Dances, live entertainment and prizes. Tickets are $35.

-Scrapbooking for Optimism is Saturday at the Blackfalds Community Hall. Tickets are $20 for a full day or $10 for a half with proceeds going to the Blackfalds Optimist Club.

-Young Adult Cancer Canada is holding their 6thShave for the Brave” Saturday at Parkland Mall starting at 11am. Funds raised will help young adults dealing with cancer.

Sports:

-The Red Deer Rebels have less than six games remaining before the playoffs. Friday they are in Medicine Hat and home to Swift Current on Saturday. Saturday is Subway puzzle night, with the first 400 kids receiving a collector puzzle featuring Dion Phaneuf and Colin Fraser.

-Heritage Junior B action sees the deciding game of the north division final between the Blackfalds Wranglers and the Red Deer Vipers. The game starts at 7:30pm in Blackfalds.

-AMHL playoffs have the Red Deer Optimist Rebels hosting the UFA Bisons in game three of the south division final.

-Midget AAA girls, The Sutter Fund Chiefs, host the Highwood Raiders with the puck drop at 7:00pm at Kin City B.

-Red Riding Hood, horror fantasy with Amanda Seyfried and Gary Oldman.

Local:

-BIG 105 presents the Sylvan Lake Pond Hockey Tournament Friday through Sunday on Sylvan Lake. Meet The Hanson Brothers from the film “Slap Shot” and cheer on the BIG 105 team.

-BIG 105 presents The Indigo Festival Saturday at the Collicut Centre Field House. It’s a holistic fair focusing on pregnancy and parenting with exhibits, speakers and hands on demonstrations. Admission is free.

-Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery invites you to check out the newest public art piece “End of the Line: Red Deer Elevator Row” Friday at the MAG. The wine and cheese reception starts at 6pm.

Sports:

-Seven games left in the Red Deer Rebels including Friday against Calgary. Puck drops at 7:30 at the Enmax Centrium. The next home game is March 12th against Swift Current. All games on the radio on 106.7 The Drive.
