Weekend Report

Local

-BIG105 and Against The Wall Theatre present “Bull Skit” Friday and Saturday at the Scott Block Theatre downtown. Live comedy and improv for only $18. Tickets available at the door. Thanks to the musical guest, The Doom Kitties, for stopping by the BIG 105 studios.

Sports

-Two home games for the Red Deer Rebels this weekend. The Edmonton Oil Kings are in town Friday with the Calgary Hitmen taking the Saturday game. Tickets at Ticketmaster. You can also catch the game on 106.7 The Drive.

-Heritage B Junior action has Red Deer at Stettler while Rimbey hosts Blackfalds. Chinook Senior Men’s League sees Fort Saskatchewan taking on Sylvan Lake in Blackfalds.

-And RDC Kings and Queens basketball entertains Lethbridge down at the Main Gym. The Queens serve at 6:00pm and the Kings will follow.

-The Rite with Anthony Hopkins

-127 Hours with James Franco is also being shown. It’s up for multiple Academy Awards.

Weekend Report

Local

-Red Deer Canadian Ukrainian Dance Club presents “Malanka” at Festival Hall Saturday. The evening includes cocktails and dinner with music from The Northern Kings Orchestra to follow. Tickets are $50. Call Vic at 403-347-2344.

-Saturday also sees “Robbie Burns Night” at the Royal Canadian Legion. The evening includes cocktails and a traditional Robbie Burns supper with music from The Red Deer Legion Pipe Band. Tickets are $30. Call for details 403-342-0035.

-The Red Deer Symphony Orchestra invites you to an evening of music including Vivaldi’s ‘The Four Seasons’ and Bach’s ‘Concerto No. 2’ Saturday. Tickets available at Ticketmaster.

Sports

-Three games in three nights for the Red Deer Rebels. Friday they are in Medicine Hat, Saturday the boys are home against Moose Jaw and Sunday the boys hit the road to take on the Kootenay Ice. All games can be heard on 106.7 The Drive.

-Red Deer College Kings and Queens have a home and home with the SAIT Trojans. Games Friday are at the RDC main gym with tipoff at 6pm for the Queens and 8pm for the Kings. Tomorrow both squads travel to Calgary for the rematch.

Film

-No Strings Attached with Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher.

-The Company Men starring Ben Affleck and Tommy Lee Jones also opens in wide release this weekend but not available in Red Deer.

Saturday Night Live features “The Social Network” star Jesse Eisenberg with musical guest Nicki Minaj.

Weekend Report

Local:

-BIG 105 presents Toopy and Binoo and the Marshmallow Moon Sunday at the Memorial Centre. Tickets are about $30 and available at the Black Knight Ticket Centre.

Sports:

-The Red Deer Rebels continue their road swing with three games in three nights. Friday in Brandon, Saturday in Regina and Sunday in Swift Current. The next home game is January 22nd vs. Moose Jaw.

-The Red Deer College Queens are in Edmonton taking on Grant McEwan. Last night they slipped by the Griffins 2-1.

-The RDC Kings and Queens volleyball host Medicine Hat at the gym starting with the Queens at 6pm.

-And good luck to the Blackfalds Bulldogs in Atom A action Friday. They are taking on the Rocky Warriors at the Blackfalds arena starting at 6:45pm.

Saturday Night Live features Gwyneth Paltrow with musical guest Cee Lo Green.

Local

-Lindsay Thurber is hosting Jazz Night 2011 featuring the ‘Take Note’ Choir Friday at the Red deer College Arts Centre. Tickets are $15 and available by calling Lisa at (403) 347-1171 ext. 1709

-MAGnificent Saturday at the Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery. Art making activities for the family. They supply the materials and you bring your imagination. The fun begins at 2pm.

-Top Secret: Mission Toy will also be held at the Red Deer Museum and Art Gallery until Sunday. See how toys from all around the world help kids gain knowledge, social and motor skills.

-High school final exams go for Lindsay Thurber, Hunting Hills and Notre Dame starting Wednesday. Good luck to the kids; both on the exams and asking to go out this weekend.

Sports

-The Red Deer Rebels take to the ice this weekend with a home and away game. The boys entertain the Regina Pats Friday at the Centrium then take to the road Saturday against the Kootenay Ice. Games can be heard on our brother station 106.7 The Drive.

-The Midget AAA Optimist Rebels host the Edmonton Canadians at the Red Deer Arena starting at 8pm.

-Heritage Junior B League action sees the Red Deer Vipers in Three Hills on Friday then home to the Blackfalds Ford Wranglers Saturday.

-The Chinook Senior Men’s League shows Sylvan Lake at Bentley while Stony Plain is down in Innisfail.

-Lindsay Thurber will host the 17th annual Gr. 9 Invitational Basketball Tournament this weekend. The competition begins tonight with Lindsay Thurber taking on Hunting Hills.
