Weekend Report

Local:

BIG 105 and Against the Wall Theatre present Bull Skit at the Scott Block Theatre downtown Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $18.00 for adults, $15 for students/seniors at the door.

-The Red Deer Public Library invites you to their Fairy Princess Tea Party on Saturday at 2:00pm. Wear your royal gown and enjoy stories, crafts and activities. All ages welcome.

-The 24 Red Deer Squadron Air Cadets Sponsoring Committee is holding their annual Auction/Wine & Cheese Reception Saturday at the Black Knight Inn. Auction includes a flight over Central Alberta, a Jacuzzi suite at the Black Knight Inn and more. Tickets are $30

Sports:

-The Red Deer Rebels have one game this weekend. Friday the boys host the Kelowna Rockets at the Enmax Centrium. Game time is 7:30.

-Junior B playoffs continue Friday as The Blackfalds Wranglers take on Panoka.

-Midget AAA playoffs have the Red Deer Optimist Rebels host the Calgary Royals in Game 1 of the South Division semi finals. Puck drops at 7:30 at the Arena.

Film:

-Hall Pass with Owen Wilson and Jason Sudekis about men who get a week off of marriage.

-Drive Angry with Nicolas Cage in a story of revenge. That’s all I will say about that.

Friday’s LottoMax jackpot is $50Million with an estimated 7 MaxMillions.

It’s Oscar weekend. The Academy Awards are Sunday night on ABC.

Weekend Report

Local:

- Changes to Winterfest in Sylvan Lake on Saturday. With frigid temperatures, the annual Polar Bear Dip and Winterfest lake activities have been postponed until Saturday March 5th. Indoor activities such as the Movie Marathon and Farmer Market are still being held. The fireworks will take place at 8pm from Sylvan Lake Pier.

- Family Day celebrations at Bower Pond Sunday. The family skating party, free hot chocolate, snowshoeing, Jam Can curling and treats in the pavilion. The activities will be cancelled if it reaches -21 with the wind chill.

- Blackfalds Winterfest on Monday. 4 on 4 pond hockey challenge, BBQ courtesy of the Fire Dept, Penguin Dip and capped off with fireworks at All Star Park.

-The Government of Alberta has announced certain museums and historic sites offer free admission on Family Day.

Sports:

-Hunting Hills High School hosts its senior basketball tournament Friday with several local teams taking part. The first game set for 4:00pm.

-Three games in four nights for the Rebels. Friday they entertain Lethbridge. Saturday, Kamloops is in town and Sunday the boys have a rematch in Lethbridge. All the action called over at 106.7 The Drive.

-The Bantam AAA Rebels White Team can advance to the next round with a win in Lethbridge Friday. White took the series lead with a 6-0 win Thursday.

-Senior Men’s Hockey sees the Bentley Generals host Stony Plain, opening the provincial AAA semi finals. Puck drops Friday at 8:30pm. The rematch goes in Stony Saturday at 7:30pm. The Sylvan Lake Admirals host the Ft. Saskatchewan Chiefs Saturday at 8:30pm.

Film:

-I Am Number Four about extraordinary teens on the run from ruthless super enemies.

-Unknown with Liam Neeson and Diane Kruger about a man who’s identity is assumed by another.

Weekend Report

Local:

-The Vagina Monologues at the Memorial Centre Friday and Saturday, based on Eve Ensler’s production raising funds and awareness to end violence against women and girls. Tickets are available at the Black Knight Ticket Centre.

-Habitat for Humanity’s Valentine’s Day Couples Build Fundraiser invites couples to join them on the build site Saturday. Spend time with your sweetie and make a hands on difference in Red Deer. Call 403-309-0998 or visit www.habitatreddeer.ca.

-Blackfalds Field House is hosting its inaugural Goods, Services and Talent Auction, (G.S.T. Auction) Saturday. Check out the items up for auction, with live fundraising with Rick Horn. Funds raised go to future field house.

-The Lacombe Cutter Parade takes place Saturday at the Lacombe Ag. Society Grounds. Hook up is 1:00pm with the parade starting at 2.

Sports:

-The Red Deer Rebels have three games in three nights this weekend, two of them at the Centrium. Friday the boys entertain Calgary with post game fireworks. Saturday the Rebels are in Lethbridge and Sunday they are home to Prince George. Congrats to Jaben Belder who will be watching Sunday’s game in the Enmax Power Suite for winning our Colouring Contest.

-Midget AAA action sees Red Deer hosting Sherwood Park Friday at 8pm at the Arena.

-Chinook Senior Men’s League Playoffs has the Bentley Generals hosting game one of the CHL final Friday against Fort Saskatchewan.

Weekend Report

Local:

-Music at the Ranch starts tonight at 6pm at Heritage Ranch. It’s an evening of food and acoustic music. Call the Ranch for details and tickets.

-BIG 105 presents the With This Ring Bridal Gala Sunday at Westerner Park. Experts, booths, exhibits and demonstrations for your wedding with the fashion show hosted by Paul and Lisa from The Morning Buzz. Tickets are available at the door.

Sports:

The Red Deer Rebels have one game this weekend. Friday at the Centrium as they entertain the Moose Jaw Warriors. Game time is 7:30. Play by play can be heard on 106.7 The Drive.

-The first annual Red Deer Outdoor Midget “A” Tournament sees teams from across Alberta and BC competing. Action starts at 5 with games at the Bower Community Rinks.

-Chinook Senior Men’s League playoffs show Sylvan Lake in Bentley taking on the Generals at 8pm.

-RDC Kings and Queens take to the floor with Mount Royal in town. The Queens are at 6 and Kings follow.

Film:

-Sanctum is a film from James Cameron about underwater cave divers.

-The Roommate with Leighton Meester who becomes obsessed with her roomie.
