Weekend Report

Local:

- Changes to Winterfest in Sylvan Lake on Saturday. With frigid temperatures, the annual Polar Bear Dip and Winterfest lake activities have been postponed until Saturday March 5th. Indoor activities such as the Movie Marathon and Farmer Market are still being held. The fireworks will take place at 8pm from Sylvan Lake Pier.

- Family Day celebrations at Bower Pond Sunday. The family skating party, free hot chocolate, snowshoeing, Jam Can curling and treats in the pavilion. The activities will be cancelled if it reaches -21 with the wind chill.

- Blackfalds Winterfest on Monday. 4 on 4 pond hockey challenge, BBQ courtesy of the Fire Dept, Penguin Dip and capped off with fireworks at All Star Park.

-The Government of Alberta has announced certain museums and historic sites offer free admission on Family Day.

Sports:

-Hunting Hills High School hosts its senior basketball tournament Friday with several local teams taking part. The first game set for 4:00pm.

-Three games in four nights for the Rebels. Friday they entertain Lethbridge. Saturday, Kamloops is in town and Sunday the boys have a rematch in Lethbridge. All the action called over at 106.7 The Drive.

-The Bantam AAA Rebels White Team can advance to the next round with a win in Lethbridge Friday. White took the series lead with a 6-0 win Thursday.

-Senior Men’s Hockey sees the Bentley Generals host Stony Plain, opening the provincial AAA semi finals. Puck drops Friday at 8:30pm. The rematch goes in Stony Saturday at 7:30pm. The Sylvan Lake Admirals host the Ft. Saskatchewan Chiefs Saturday at 8:30pm.

Film:

-I Am Number Four about extraordinary teens on the run from ruthless super enemies.

-Unknown with Liam Neeson and Diane Kruger about a man who’s identity is assumed by another.
