Weekend Report

Local:

-Heritage Ranch is holding “New Years Eve at the Ranch” beginning with a steak and lobster dinner then an evening of dancing with live music from the Boom Chucka Boys. Details at www.heritageranch.ca

-The City of Lacombe is ringing in the new year with the mayor. The New Years Eve Mayor’s Ball brings Las Vegas to Lacombe. You also have a chance to win a trip for two to Sin City. Details by calling 403-782-6668

-Red Deer City Hall is closed Monday January 3rd, same with most admin buildings around Central Alberta (Sylvan and Lacombe)

-Transit Holiday Hours: 8:45am to 6:45pm

- Action Bus Schedule: Buses are running New Years Eve from 8:30 to 4:30, same schedule for Monday. Won't run all weekend.

- The Rec Centre and Michener Centre are closed Saturday. The Rec Centre is open again Sunday, Michener Centre is closed until Monday.

- The Collicutt and GH Dawe are open all weekend....Collicutt Centre closes at 5 and the Dawe is closed. Saturday both are open from 10am to 8pm.

-Bower Mall is OPEN Saturday from 11 until 5

-Parkland Mall is Closed New Years Day (Sat)

-New Years Day fireworks out of Sylvan Lake at 8pm tomorrow night!

Sports:

-The Red Deer Rebels take to the ice for a pair of away games this weekend. Saturday they are in Saskatoon taking on the Blades. Sunday they visit the Raiders in Prince Albert. You can catch the action on our sister station 106.7 The Drive.

-The Mac’s Midget Tournament in Calgary sees the Sutter Fund Girls meet the Edmonton Thunder in the semis Friday. The ladies went through the tournament undefeated so good luck to them.

Film:

No new films this weekend.

Lotto Max jackpot is $50 Million with almost 20 Max Millions. Not a bad way to ring in 2011.

Weekend Report

Local

-The Pure Fighting Championship at the Prairie Pavillion Friday night starting at 7:00pm. 10 professional MMA fights on the card with tickets available at Ticketmaster.

-The CP Holiday Train runs through Red Deer Saturday at 9:45am. See it at CP Rail Yard, 6867 Edgar Industrial Drive and bring a donation for the Red Deer Food Bank.

-BIG 105 will be at Canadian Tire north starting at 10:00am Saturday, accepting empty bottles for Bottles for a Brighter Christmas. Make a donation, enjoy coffee from Van Houtte and enter to win a $500 gift card from Bower Place Shopping Centre.

-BIG 105 presents Ron James Saturday at the Memorial Centre. Tickets at the Black Knight Ticket Centre.

-The Village of Alix cuts the ribbon on their new fire hall Saturday and stick around for the Family Christmas Celebration including public skating, pictures with Santa and Sleigh Rides.

Sports

-The Red Deer Rebels have three games this weekend starting tonight as the boys entertain Kelowna. Regina is in town Saturday and the Rebels in Calgary Sunday night.

-The Notre Dame Cougar Classic continues today. The senior boys and girls basketball tournament will see the Cougars take to the floor against Edmonton`s St. Joe`s High.

Weekend Report

Wow, has it been almost a month since we've done of these?

Local:

-BIG 105 presents The Christmas Bazaar Saturday and Sunday at Westerner Park. Find clothing, accessories, home decor and pet products to finish your holiday shopping. Admission is by donation to the Ronald McDonald House or Food Bank

-The RCMP is having a Charity Checkstop Saturday starting at 11am. Bring a donation of cash, non perishable food items, winter clothing or unwrapped toys and get ‘caught’ by the RCMP. Items collected go to the Red Deer Christmas Bureau and the Food Bank.

-Christmas Dance at the Clive Community Hall Saturday starting at 6:30. Door prizes, a concession and live entertainment. Admission is $5 and kids 10 and under are free. All proceeds going to Clive Community Adopt a Family Christmas Program.

Sports:

-Two home games for the Red Deer Rebels as the boys take on Prince Albert Friday and Brandon Saturday. Saturdays game is Toque Toss Night. Bring toques, scarves and mittens and throw them on the ice when the Rebels score their first goal. All items collected go to the Red Deer Christmas Bureau.

-The Midget AAA Optimist Rebels host the other Calgary Flames tonight at the Red Deer Arena with an 8:00pm puck drop.

-The Olds Grizzlies are home to Fort McMurray in AJHL action while the Heritage Junior B League sees Rimbey in Three Hills.

Film:

-Conviction with Hilary Swank and Sam Rockwell about a sister’s devotion to free her wrongfully convicted brother from prison.
