Weekend Report

Local:

-BIG 105 presents Centrefest Saturday and Sunday downtown Red Deer. The festival features world renowned entertainers, including dancers, magicians, comics, contortionists, food and much more. Don’t forget to bring money as they pass the hat.

- The Kraay Family Farm opens this weekend featuring the Lacombe Corn Maze. $1 of every admission on the long weekends with be going to the Rick Hansen Foundation.

-Leslieville Antique Days go Saturday and Sunday. Show the kids how farming was done the pioneer way. Enjoy the fiddler’s jamboree, pancake breakfast and more. Call (403) 729-2113 for more information.

Sports:

-Parkland Baseball League is experiencing a rain out week and action will resume with the League Championship Tournament next weekend in Red Deer.

-Alberta Football League has a bye week before the quarterfinals next weekend. The Central Alberta Buccaneers will host the Calgary Gators while the Edmonton Stallions will be in Lloydminster.

Film:

-The Smurfs finally hit the big screen staring Neil Patrick Harris and features the voices of Katy Perry, Sofia Vergara, and Jonathan Winters.

-Cowboys & Aliens a sci-fi flick with Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford.

-Crazy, Stupid, Love featuring an all star cast including Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling.

Saturday is also the last day to enter to win tickets to see Michael Buble in Edmonton as part of the Life Saving Summer with Canadian Blood Services. Simply make a blood donation and your name goes into the draw! The clinic is open from 9:00am-1:00pm Saturday.

Weekend Report

Local:

-Westerner Days 2011 continues at Westerner Park all weekend. Family Day is Sunday where admission and parking is $20 for a carload of up to six people. Sunday also has kids 10 and under paying $10 for midway rides but does not include admission or parking.

-BIG 105 presents Drive In Movies at the Mall. The first show of the season is Friday at Parkland Mall. This week’s film is Ghostbusters and admission is $10 per vehicle. The Red Deer Food Bank will be on hand selling popcorn and refreshments.

-Jungle Farms in Innisfail is hosting the Strawberry Festival Saturday and invite you to participate in the Strawberry Sundae Festival starting at 10am. Big Brothers and Sisters will be selling sundaes for $3 raising money for their organization.

Sports:

-Parkland Baseball League action sees the Red Deer Goliath Razorbacks home to Lacombe Friday at Great Chief Park. Beiseker is in Innisfail. Saturday sees Beiseker in Eckville for a double header while Carstairs is in Lacombe. Sunday has a double header with Red Deer in Rocky Mountain House.

-Alberta Football League action sees the Central Alberta Buccaneers hoping to get back in the win column as they are in Edmonton taking on the Renegades Saturday at Riel Park. Game time is 1pm.

Film:

-Captain America: The First Avenger, the latest in the Marvel superhero universe with Chris Evans and Tommy Lee Jones.

-Friends with Benefits, a romantic comedy with Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis.

Local:

-BIG 105 presents Drive In Movies at the Mall. The first show of the season is Friday at Parkland Mall. This week’s film, rescheduled from last week, is RV: Runaway Vacation and admission is $10 per vehicle. The Red Deer Food Bank will be on hand selling popcorn and refreshments.

-BIG 105 presents Alberta’s Own Independent Music Festival Friday through Sunday at Michener Park in Lacombe. The weekend will feature headliners Our Lady Peace and Econoline Crush with local acts Oldbury, Soul Side in and The Stone Cartel.

-BIG 105 presents The Westerner Days Kickoff Pancake Breakfast Saturday in the Bower Place Shopping Centre parking log. Join us at 8:00am as we serve pancakes, sausages, juice, coffee and live entertainment. Don’t forget your own lawn chair.

-The Learning Disabilities Association of Red Deer is holding a barbecue and carwash fundraiser at Sobey’s South Saturday starting at 11:00am. $3.50 for a hot dog and a pop and the carwash is by donation. Proceeds go to LD Red Deer.

Sports:

-BIG 105 presents the Celebrity Slo-Pitch Challenge Saturday at Great Chief Park. Come see CFL alumni including Willy Pless, Terry Evanshen, Rocco Romano and more. Proceeds go towards prostate cancer research.

- Parkland Baseball League action sees the Red Deer home to Rocky Mountain House Friday at Great Chief Park. The PBL All Star Game is Saturday and Beiseker is in Olds Sunday.

- Alberta Football League action sees the Central Alberta Buccaneers in Grande Prairie taking on the Drillers at Legion Field. Game time is 7:00pm.

Film:

-Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, the epic conclusion between the boy who lived and he who shall not be named. Starring Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson.

-Winnie The Pooh, an old school animated feature with voice talents of Jim Cummings and Craig Ferguson. The gang embarks on a quest to save Christopher Robin.

- BIG 105 presents Las Vegas Dueling Pianos Friday and Saturday at Bo’s Bar and Grill. Tickets are $15 and available at Bo’s on Gaetz South.

- The 82nd annual Buck Lake Stampede - FCA amateur rodeo runs Friday through Sunday. Spectators are welcome to attend and enjoy the beer gardens, pancake breakfasts and evening dance.

- The Rimbey Rodeo and Shoot-Out takes place Friday through Sunday. The midway runs all weekend with the rodeo running Friday night and Saturday and the Show n Shine Sunday.

- BIG 105 presents The RBC Fun Run for Families Saturday at Heritage Ranch. Enjoy the 10k run or the 5k run and walk with money going to the Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter.

Sports:

- The Red Deer Rebels 2001 Memorial Cup Championship team will be hosting a game between the 2001 Red Deer Rebels against other Rebels alumni Saturday at the Sylvan Lake Arena. The game begins at 2:00pm and admission is a non-perishable food or cash donation to the Red Deer and Sylvan Lake food banks.

-Parkland Baseball League action sees the Red Deer Razorback take their 8-1 record to the mound against Caroline Friday at Great Chief Park. Meantime, Rocky is in Innisfail. Sunday features two double headers with Innisfail in Olds and Eckville in Caroline.

-Alberta Football League games see the Central Alberta Buccaneers home to the Edmonton Stallions Saturday in Lacombe at MEGlobal Athletic Park.

-The Red Deer City Soccer Association hosts its annual Outdoor Classic Tournament this Friday through Sunday. 96 teams are involved including 17 from Red Deer.

Film:

-The Zookeeper, a romantic comedy with Kevin James as a zookeeper who can talk to the animals.

-Horrible Bosses, a comedy with Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston and Kevin Spacey about friends who plot to kill each other’s bosses.
