Weekend Report

Local:

-The Red Deer and District SPCA is holding their annual fundraiser, Red Deer’s Largest Garage Sale, Friday through Sunday at 5239 53rd Ave, north of Superstore. Enter the raffles and pick up some gently used items. Details at www.reddeerspca.com.

-BIG 105 is raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. We’re holding bottle drive at Canadian Tire and Sobey’s North starting at 11am. Your donation could win Katy Perry tickets or an autographed stick from goaltender Chris Mason of the Atlanta Thrashers who will be signing autographs.

- “Get into the ‘SPEAR IT’ of spring!!” Asparagus Festival at Edgar Farms west of Innisfail. Enjoy hay rides, tastings prepared by executive chefs, petting zoo, bale fort, and other locally made/locally baked booths. The Festival runs 10am – 5pm Saturday and Sunday.

-Sunday, BIG 105 presents the Enerflex MS Walk at Bower Ponds. Registration and breakfast begin at 7:45am with the walk starting at 9am. For more info and to register visit www.mswalks.ca.

Sports:

-Friday, Parkland Baseball League action sees the Red Deer Razorbacks hosting the Innisfail Indians at Great Chief Park with first pitch at 6:45pm. Rocky Mountain House visits Lacombe. Sunday, Lacome is in Beiseker.

-High School soccer has Alix visiting Notre Dame while Sylvan Lake visits Central Alberta Christian.

Film:

-Kung Fu Panda 2, featuring the voice talents of Jack Black and Angelina Jolie.

-The Hangover 2, a comedic sequel featuring Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms.

Weekend Report

Local:

-BIG 105 presents the Central Alberta Family Expo at the Parkland Pavilion, Westerner Park. Enjoy a day of fun for the whole family including live entertainment and a petting zoo. Tickets are $20 for a family of four and available at the door.

-Tree House Youth Theatre has their first-ever spring tea celebration and fund raiser Saturday at the Scott Block Theatre downtown. Entertainment, prizes, and several "smackerals" of something sweet. Tickets are $40.

-The 4th Annual Festival of Music and Dance takes place Saturday at the Spruce View Community Hall. Entertainment by The Reflections and The Diamonds Band. The evening includes dancing and a beef on a bun supper. Tickets are $30 by calling (403) 728-3333.

Sports:

- BIG 105 presents PFC7: Spring Break Up, Friday at the Stockmens Pavilion, Westerner Park. Tickets are $50 and available at Ticketmaster.

Film:

-Bridesmaids, a comedy featuring Kristen Wiig and Jon Hamm.

-Priest, a horror thriller with Paul Bettany and Cam Gigandet.

On DVD Friday, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never”. A look at Bieber’s early life, his rise to fame, plus performances and behind-the-scenes footage from his 2010 tour. But you already knew that.

Saturday Night Live features Ed Helms (“The Office) with musical guest Paul Simon.

Next weekend is the May long weekend and the official start of camping season. Better reserve your spot now.

Local

-BIG 105 presents the Relay for Life Media Tailgate Kickoff Party Saturday at BIG 105, 2840 Bremner Avenue. Participating teams will be raising funds and we’ll have a BBQ courtesy of Sobey’s South and games from Windsor Plywood. All the fun begins at 11a.

-M&M Meat Shops have their annual Charity BBQ Day benefiting Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada. The event is 10a-4p at locations across Canada.

-Pre-Mother’s Day dinner entertainment with the 16th Annual Festival of Champions at the Enmax Centrium on Sunday. The event starts at 1pm and features five of the best marching bands in Canada, including the Red Deer Royals. Tickets are $5 at the door.

Sports

-Red Deer BMX has their 6th annual Beginner’s Clinic Saturday at Great West Adventure Park starting at noon. which will include information about the 2011 season and opportunities to purchase memberships.

Film

-Something Borrowed, a romantic comedy with Kate Hudson and John Krasinski.

-Thor, comic book action with Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman.

Saturday Night Live features the brilliant Tina Fey with musical guest Ellie Goulding.

Sunday is Mother’s Day. Congratulations to Tracy White-Bennett, grand prize winner of The Morning Buzz ‘Mommy and Me’ contest. She wins tickets to see Elton John May 14th in Calgary including return transportation from Arrow Limousine. Happy Mother’s Day, moms!
