Weekend Report

Local:

-Grand reopening of the newly renovated G.H. Dawe Centre. Everything gets going at 1pm with the ceremony and stick around for a free bbq and swimming.

-BIG 105 presents The Electric Garage Collector Car and Memorabilia Auction Friday and Saturday at Westerner Park. Doors at 4p today and 9a tomorrow.

-Town of Blackfalds has their Curbside Giveaway Saturday. Place unwanted household items at the curb with a sign marked ‘free’.

-Lacombe Athletic Park Association is celebrating the grand opening of Encana Field House with Football Day. Ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 and the 2010 CMFL National Championships between the Lloydminster Bandits and Sault Ste. Marie Steelers.

-Red Deer Aboriginal Dance Troupe’s Bowl-a-Thon Sunday at Heritage Lanes. $10 gets you a hamburger or hot dog, pop, chips, shoe rental and two hours of bowling. Noon.


Sports

-Red Deer Rebels home and home with the Edmonton Oil Kings. In Edmonton Friday and the home opener Saturday at the Centrium. Game time is 7:30pm.

-Heritage Junior B Hockey pre-season sees the Red Deer Vipers take on the Three Hills Thrashers at the Red Deer Arena at 8:00pm. Ponoka at Blackfalds at 8:30pm

-High School football tomorrow sees Hunting Hills at Innisfail. Rocky Jr. Rebels at Notre Dame. Drumheller at Lacombe, Lindsay Thurber at Sylvan Lake.

Weekend Report

Local:

-BIG 105 presents Bull Skit tonight at the Scott Block downtown. Tickets are $18 with an 8pm showtime.

-Ride for the Breath of Life motorcycle fundraiser goes at Gasoline Alley Harley Davidson Saturday. Money raised goes to Cystic Fibrosis. Registration is 9:30am.

-The Town of Penhold is hosting free public skating at the Multiplex starting at noon on Saturday.

-BIG 105 presents The Alexander Way Arts Festival as part of Alberta Arts Days. Runs Saturday12:00-5:00pm on 52nd Ave between 47th and 48th Street.

-BIG 105 presents Sarah Harmer at the Memorial Centre Saturday. Tickets are $35.00 and available at the Black Knight Ticket Centre.

-Sunday, the 30th Annual Terry Fox Run takes place at Heritage Ranch. Walk, run, bike, rollerblade. Prizes and anniversary cake to follow. Fun gets underway at 11:30am.


Sports

-Red Deer Rebels pre-season action continues tonight as the boys take on Edmonton in Lacombe. Game time is 7:30pm. Rebels and Tigers tomorrow in Stettler.

-Red Deer College Queens Volleyball team is taking on Hokusho University from Japan. The game is at the RDC main gym and first serve at 8pm.

Saturday Night Live will rerun the infamous Betty White episode. Next weekend, the guest will be Amy Poehler with music from Katy Perry.

Weekend Report

Local:

-BIG 105 presents the ‘Give The Gift of Life Fun Run and Walk’ raising funds and awareness for the Kidney Foundation of Canada on Sunday September 12th at Kiwanis Picnic Centre. There will be the two, five or eight kilometer walk, food and entertainment.

-The 2010 Heartland 3 on 3 Ball Hockey Tournament runs this weekend on Burnt Lake Trail. Eight teams taking part raising money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

-The Red Deer & District SPCA’s Bark at the Bend dog Walk-a-thon goes Saturday at noon at Three Mile Bend featuring Madame Dee and her dog paw readings. Watch for Jordan Stryker on the street.

-The Bowden United Church is hosting a tea and bake sale Saturday from 1:30-3:30. Cost is $3 per person.


Sports:

-High School Football sees Lacombe at Sylvan, Rocky at Stettler with both games at 4:30. Wetaskiwin is at Camrose Saturday.

-Notre Dame Jr. Cougars take on Lindsay Thurber Jr. Raiders Saturday at Great Chief Park with kickoff at 1pm.

-Red Deer Rebels pre-season continues with another match against the Calgary Hitmen. The game is in Innisfail with a puck drop at 7:30pm.


Film:

Resident Evil: Afterlife with Milla Jovovich and the hunky Wentworth Miller.


Saturday Night Live celebrates the beginning if the NFL season with host Peyton Manning and musical guest Carrie Underwood. The season premiere will be September 25th with host Amy Poehler and musical guest Katy Perry.

Local:

-Live at the Hub features local artists and live music. Tonight’s performer is Randi Boulton.

-The 31st Annual Mustang Meet takes place at the Capri Hotel tonight through Monday. Show and Shine, BBQ dinners and a poker Rally. Details at 403-391-8699.

-The Red Deer Market Saturday morning and the Family Drop in Story Time at 11a.


Sports:

-High School Football sees Hunting Hills in Lacombe at 4:30. Notre Dame visits Camrose and Rocky is in Wetaskiwin this evening.

-Red Deer BMX is in Stony Plain for the Western Canadian Nationals Saturday and Sunday.

-And it’s Labour Day weekend in the CFL. Good luck to which ever team you cheer for as long as it’s not the Eskimos.
