Weekend Report

Local

-The Red Deer Curling Classic is going on today, tomorrow AND Sunday at both the Red Deer Curling Centre and Michener Hill Centre. BIG 105’s Callie Cooper will be on hand Saturday with a Scotties Tournament of Hearts Gift basket to give away.

-The City of Red Deer is offering Toys for Tickets again this year. If you receive a parking ticket anytime before December 2nd, you can pay the price with a toy donated to the Red Deer Christmas Bureau. All toys must be new and unwrapped in their original packaging and the value of the toy must equal or exceed the amount owed on the parking ticket.

-The Red Deer Public Library is hosting Children’s Chess Club for kids ages 8 and up. Beginner or experienced players are welcome. Stop by and get all Bobby Fisher up in there.

-The Kerry Wood Nature Centre also has their Nature Savvy Saturdays every Saturday from 1-4p.m. Join them for family crafts and activities with only a $2 drop in fee.

Sports

-The Red Deer Rebels host the Seattle Thunderbirds Friday at the Enmax Centrium. Puck drops at 7:30p.m. with the pre-game show on our brother station 106.7 The Drive starting at 7:00p.m. This is the final home game before Red Deer embarks on a six game road trip starting Saturday against the Ice.

-Heritage Junior B action sees the Blackfalds Wranglers visit the Mountainview Colts while the Red deer Vipers are in High River taking on the Flyers Friday. Saturday has Okotoks in Red Deer and Stettler at Strathmore. Sunday sees Banff at Blackfalds and Airdrie in Ponoka.

-The Chinook Hockey League schedule has four games this weekend. Friday sees Bentley in Sylvan Lake while Stony Plain is in Innisfail. Saturday has Lloydminster in Sylvan Lake while Bentley is in Fort Saskatchewan.

-And good luck to the high school teams in the football playoffs. Friday, Lindsay Thurber is in Stettler while Lacombe visits Notre Dame. The championship between Hunting Hills and Sylvan Lake is Saturday at Great Chief Park with the kickoff at 3p.m.

Film

-Tower Heist with Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy. Think Ocean’s Eleven with less Clooney.

-A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas with Kal Penn and John Cho. It’s rated 18A for a reason.

Saturday Night Live features Charlie Day with musical guest Maroon 5.

The LottoMax jackpot is an estimated $40million. I hope I win because the money is already spent.

The City of Red Deer has also let us know the scheduled Gaetz Avenue Bridge closure will be extended until noon Saturday due to the weather. The southbound bridge will be closed from 7p.m. Friday until noon Saturday. Plan accordingly. The new path off the CPR pedestrian bridge as part of the 55 Street extension project is now complete.

Daylight Savings Time begins this weekend (or is it ending this weekend?). Either way, Sunday morning at 2a.m. the clocks move back one hour which means a little more sleep. This is also a great time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

And you have two more chances to qualify for Sun n Sandals 4: The BIG Jet to Jamaica. Paul and Lisa from The Morning Buzz will announce the grand prize winner Tuesday morning. The trip includes $350 to spend at the Travelman Luggage and Swimwear Warehouse, airport transportation from Arrow Limousine and Sedan Service, flights and a one week stay at the Sandals Grande Riviera Beach and Villa Golf Resort. Listen Tuesday to see if you are the winner!
