Weekend Report

Local:

-It’s the final Farmer’s Market of the season Saturday at the Arena downtown. This is your last chance to stock up on local products as the market will close until the May long weekend.

-Red Deer Emergency Services is joining the Alberta Fire Commissioner’s Office to promote fire prevention and safety during Fire Prevention Week. The 16th Annual Fire Prevention Week Open House will take place Saturday from 11am-3pm at Fire Station #1, 4941 46th Street. The day includes a free BBQ, facepainting, balloon animals, demonstrations and ambulance tours.

-Join Marianne Miller and friends at Wal-Mart in Sylvan Lake as they hold a head shave for cancer research. Enjoy a BBQ from 11am-3pm with all proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society.

-The Salvation Army and Loaves and Fishes are hosting their annual turkey dinners on Monday. Please support these and other similar organizations as they help up families in Central Alberta this weekend.

Sports:

-The Red Deer Rebels spend two consecutive nights on the ice as Friday they are in Calgary taking on the Hitmen then home to the Kootenay Ice on Saturday. The voice of the Rebels Cam Moon broadcasts each game, home and away, on our brother station 106.7 The Drive. Saturday is also magnetic schedule night.

-Chinook Hockey League action sees the Bentley Generals take on Carstairs Friday night in Penhold. Puck drops at 7pm.

-The Red Deer Ramada AA Bantam Chiefs are in Brooks to play the Outlaws Saturday and home to the Southwest Rockies on Sunday with the puck dropping at 2pm.

-High School Football has Hunting Hills home to Camrose, Notre Dame and Lindsay Thurber clash at Great Chief Park. Both games are Friday.

Film:

-Real Steel, a family action film with Hugh Jackman and Evangeline Lilly.

-The Ides of March, a political thriller with George Clooney and Ryan Gosling.

Saturday Night Live features Ben Stiller with musical guest Foster The People.
